National Water Management Plan
In order to guide the management of the country’s water resources WARPO has prepared the National Water Management Plan (NWMP) in December 2001. National Water Management is a framework plan for the ministries to define strategies; agencies, department, and local bodies to prepare projects; guideline for those who are responsible for the maintenance and delivery of water and water related services and development of water resources in Bangladesh. The Plan outlines eighty four programs under eight clusters for 24 agencies under different ministries to implement projects. The NWMP consist of immediate plan to be implemented in the short term (2001-2006), indicative plan for medium term (2006-2011) and perspective plan for longer term (2011-2025). Total cost envisaged to implement the plan is TK 91,457 US crore (2001 price). The NWMP was approved by the Government on 31st March 2004 by the National Water Resources Council. NWMP is a rolling plan to be periodically updated to include new priorities and challenges in the water sector.
